Technology Centre Charges Faster

Pilkington are world leaders in glass and glazing.

D&G Power Solutions were engaged to design, plan and install an 11 x 44kW electric vehicle infrastructure. We led the project to fit reliable and robust ABB fast-charging products.

Survey The Site

With energy profiling we established the energy headroom.

Create Wiring Plan

Design and sizing before installing the distribution and cables.

Make Required Mods

To begin, some modifications were required to the substation.

Bury The Bases

Civils included trenches for the charger bases and making good.

Test And Certify

Every detail including glands and terminations is tested and certified.

For Pilkington, we’ve laid the foundations for a future of smarter, more reliable, and emission-free mobility. With ABB products we’ve deployed infrastructure that meet the needs of their next generation.

New Toughening Furnace for Pilkington

One of the largest in Europe.

D&G Power Solutions installed the electrical works package for one of the largest glass plate toughening furnaces in Europe. It included the installation and termination of the 11kv high voltage cables, and termination and pressure testing to the new package substation.

The LV supplies from the substation to the furnace included all the required containment.

  • Lighting & Power in the Substation
  • Emergency Lighting
  • Earthing
  • Testing & Certification

Work completed was part of a £3 million investment in new tech by Pilkington. The state of the art furnace increases capacity and improves the potential for new work at their St Helens site.
